I squeezed my eyes tightly shut trying vainly to cut out the glare . The thin piece of cloth that hung like a depressed ghost across the window did nothing to block the light from shining directly on my pillow.

“Oh good, you’re awake”

I gave up on all hope of sleeping and opened my eyes to see Dickinson on the chair by my pillow

“She let herself in again.” he grumbled “Please tell her, my toothy friend that she is not our cook”
